Rwanda

Nok et eventyr er gjennomført. I helgen var jeg i Rwandas hovedstad Kigali. Jeg og Thomas dro med buss på torsdag, en busstur som tok 9 timer inkludert grenseovergang. Rwanda har bra natur og by på, og overraskende bra veier. Bedre enn Uganda.

Kigali var en ganske død by til hovedstad å være, men vi fikk noe ut av oppholdet likevel. Første dagen spiste vi middag på et meget fasjonabelt Hôtel de Mille Collines, Hotell Tusen Åser. Der bodde også det nigerianske fotballandslaget, og for en stor fotballelsker som meg selv så var jo dette rimelig stort.

Dessverre ble Thomas matforgiftet på dette fasjonable hotellet og var mer på toalettet enn i sengen første natten og den påfølgende dagen var han sengeliggende. Om kvelden fredag kom Inga også til Kigali og vi møtte henne i bussparken. Mens vi satt og ventet på bussen fikk vi ikke fred et sekund. "Mzungu, mzungu!" "Hviting, hviting!" Og de stod en meter fra oss og pekte. Og det var en haug med folk som skulle selge oss ubrukelige ting og tvinge oss til å være tørst. Kvelden ble en rolig en.

Lørdagen dro vi til Kigali Genocide Memorial, eller Folkemordmuseet. Det var et veldig bra museum om folkemordet som fant sted i Rwanda i 1994 og litt om andre folkemord også. Folkemordet i Rwanda resulterte i 1 mill drepte på 3 mnd og ytterligere noen millioner på flukt. Og det i et land med snaue 8 millioner innbyggere i dag.

Om kvelden lørdag ble det øl. Den lokale ølen i Rwanda heter Primus og kommer i flasker på 72 cl. En annen øl, som også var god, er Mützig som er nødt til å være noe tyskerne kom med da det var en tysk koloni før første verdenskrig. Øldrikkerne denne kvelden var meg selv, Thomas, Flo og Johanna (to tyskere som bor i Kampala). Vi drakk først på et par lokale plasser hvor ølen kostet ca 4 kr for 72 cl. På den andre plassen, Travellers Bar trådde jeg i en åpenbar felle. Nemlig at jeg kjøpte lokalt geitekjøtt på grillspyd. Noe jeg skulle få svi for senere. Men fortsatt var jeg kapabel til mer øl. Vi dro viedere til tidligere omtalte Hôtel de Mille Collines og drakk fatøl, Mützig på den norske stats regning.

Natten ble tilbrakt på toalettet. Alt jeg hadde spist og drukket hadde trang til å komme seg ut av alle åpninger, trolig grunnet geitekjøtt. Om morgenen søndag var jeg helt ferdig og ikke i stand til å reise hjem. Men jeg tvang meg inn på bussen i stedet for å ta en dag til i Rwanda. På bussen sov jeg store deler av veien og det var en overraskende bra busstur, formen min tatt i betraktning.

Det jeg oppnådde med turen var å føye et nytt land inn i rekken av land jeg har vært i, jeg fikk sett en annen kultur, jeg fikk lært noe historie, jeg fikk snakket fransk (innført av belgiske kolonister etter første verdenskrig) og jeg fikk forlenget visumet mitt til Uganda på veien tilbake. Ikke så verst utbytte av en helg.
